C'est à Birmingham en 2004 que nait le premier album d'une série de sans-fautes imaginé par une troupe de 7 musiciens et un danseur menée par le dénommé Grandmaster Gareth. Produit par Richard March (Bentley Rhythm Ace) et Matthew Eaton (Pram), Misty's Big Adventure and Their Place in the Solar Hi-Fi System est un départ en fanfare mélangeant les influences de manière explosive, de l'élégante fantaisie de Kevin Ayers à l'énergie dansante de Madness.
Humour, dérision et une dose de désillusion bariolent les pistes enivrantes du disque riches en surprises et bizarreries : dictée magique, balle de ping-pong (?) et sons indescriptibles donnent à des chansons comme Biscuit Tin ou Circles, Squares and I Blame The Parents leur touche unique.
Misty's Big Adventure and Their Place in the Solar Hi-Fi System est l'un des trésors bien trop cachés de la pop avec ce qu'il faut de vandalisme.

Produced by Richard March (Bentley Rhythm Ace) and Matthew Eaton (Pram), Misty's Big Adventure and Their Place in the Solar Hi-Fi System is a start with great fanfare mixing in an exploding way the elegant fantasy of Kevin Ayers and the energy of Madness.
Humour, derision and a dose of disillusionment daub with bright colours the heady tracks full of surprises and oddities: speak & spell, ping-pong ball (?) and indescribable sounds give songs like Biscuit Tin or Circles, Squares and I Blame The Parents their unique touch.
Misty's Big Adventure and Their Place in the Solar Hi-Fi System is one of the overly hidden treasures of pop music with what's needed of vandalism.

SAY IT IN SLANG by M Coast (2006)

Après plusieurs albums accompagné du fidèle Derek Almstead, Andrew Gonzales contracte Marshmallow Coast en M Coast pour mieux s'étirer, les deux compères se partagent à parts à peu près égales les compositions, c'est l'album le plus "groupe" du projet personnel d'Andrew Gonzales et le mieux produit. Say It In Slang brille par ses compositions lumineuses et ses arrangements savoureux alternant harmonieusement le chant entre les deux premiers cités et Emily Growden.
Gonzales et Almstead sont deux musiciens exceptionnels du collectif Elephant 6 ayant notamment posé leurs pattes dans quelques uns des meilleurs albums d'Of Montreal, les guitares du premier et la basse du second forment un couple parfait et un antidépresseur immédiat. Une sorte de Belle & Sebastian sans carence de vitamine D.
One Fine Day, Aurora, Ideas And Integrities (et son final remuant)... démontrent toute l'efficacité de cette bande d'amis Cools (avec un C majuscule).
After many albums with the loyal Derek Almstead, Andrew Gonzales contacts Marshmallow Coast to M Coast only to expend better, the two partners share the compositions in almost equal parts, it's the most 'band' album of Andrew Gonzales' personal project and the most produced. Say It In Slang delivers shiny compositions and tasty arrangements alternating singing parts harmoniously between the two mentioned before and Emily Growden.
Gonzales and Almstead are two exceptional musicians of the Elephant 6 collective, they put their paws on some of Of Montreal best albums, the guitars from the first and the bass lines from the second make a perfect couple and an immediate antidepressant. A kind of Belle & Sebastian without the lack of vitamine D.
One Fine Day, Aurora, Ideas And Integrities (and its lively ending)... demonstrate all the efficiency of this band of Cool (with a capital C) friends.

Hidden Pop Classics est une sélection de disques qui m'ont marqués et n'ont jamais vieilli. Il n'est pas question ici de grands noms, quoiqu'ils le soient pour moi, mais de grands albums sortis à l'écart des projecteurs.

Hidden Pop Classics is a selection of records that marked me and never got old. It's not  about great names, even if they are for me, but great albums released away from the projectors.

Grandmaster Gareth - Loot Rascals Soundtrack (Album)

Donner la responsabilité de la bande son d'un jeu vidéo à Grandmaster Gareth ne pouvait être qu'une idée géniale, preuve en est ce Loot Rascals Soundtrack. Connu aussi pour son groupe Misty's Big Adventure, Grandmaster Gareth est un magicien pop hors paire et c'est coiffé de son plus beau chapeau étoilé qu'il a pondu ces morceaux.
Je ne connais rien de ce jeu et je n'ai même pas de PS4 de toute façon, mais s'il doit rencontrer un certain succès, la BO n'y sera probablement pas étrangère. Bien assise dans l'électro-vidéoludique avec des claviers sortis d'une enfance encore présente dans la tête du maître, elle s'agrémente d'éléments plus classiques : chœurs, violons, cuivres... un western-spaceghetti en quelque sorte par quelqu'un qui a ouvert sa bible à la page "Joe Meek and the Blue Men" quand les morceaux ne prennent pas des accents ska.
En fait je me suis trompé, le jeu est aussi disponible sur PC, reste à savoir si mon dinosaure asthmatique peut encore le supporter.

To give the responsability of a video game soundtrack to Grandmaster Gareth could only be a genius idea, proof is this Loot Rascals Soundtrack. Also known for his band Misty's Big Adventure, Grandmaster Gareth is a pop magician without equal and it is wearing his most beautiful starry hat that he has delivered these pieces.
I know nothing about this game and i don't even have a PS4 anyway but if it finds some success this OST probably won't be a stranger to it. Well seated in the electronic videogame music thing with keyboards emerged from a childhood still present in the master's head, it is liven up with more classical elements: choirs, violins, brass instruments... a kind of western-spaceghetti by someone who has opened his bible on the 'Joe Meek and the Blue Men' page, when the pieces don't take a ska accent.
In fact i have been wrong, the game is also available on PC, it remains to be seen if my asthmatic dinosaur still can support it.

Misty's Big Adventure - How Not To Get Into The Music Industry (EP)

Un nouvel album ou EP de Misty's Big Adventure est toujours une bonne nouvelle et quoi de mieux pour célébrer ce How Not To Get Into The Music Indusrty que de l'écouter ?
Cet EP est la réponse moqueuse de Grandmaster Gareth face à l'artificialité de la majorité (ou minorité visible) de l'industrie musicale suite à une expérience avec celle-ci.
Le résultat est celui que l'on peut attendre d'un groupe profondément incapable de faire de la merde et parodiant l’inconsistance de la musique grand public. Génial.

A new album or EP from Misty's Big Adventure is always a good news and what's better to celebrate this How Not To Get Into The Music Indusrty than listening to it?
This EP is Grandmaster Gareth's mocking response to the artificiality of the majority - or visible minority -  of the musical industry after an experience with it.
The result is what you can expect from a band deeply unable to make shitty songs and trying to parody the inconsistency of mainstream music. Genius.

Misty's Big Adventure - Lumpy Fun

Il paraît que Pink Floyd va sortir un nouvel album. Franchement, vous feriez mieux d'écouter Misty's Big Adventure, je sais pas si c'est comparable mais c'est super bien. MBA est l'un des meilleurs groupes de pop en activité et ils viennent de sortir Lumpy Fun, un album de faces B (24 s'il vous plait) avec des monstres, Bruce Willis, des questions existentielles et des éléphants.

De quoi avoir le sourire, même un lundi matin.

It seems that Pink Floyd is going to release a new album. Honestly, you'd better listen to Misty's Big Adventure, i don't know if it's comparable but it's super cool. MBA is one of the best active pop bands and they just released Lumpy Fun, a B-sides album (24 tracks, please) including monsters, Bruce Willis, existential questions and elephants.

Good music to bring a smile on your face even on a monday morning.
