Chargr - Vox Pop (Album)

Charlie Wood, que l'on connaissait jusqu'à comme membre des Retro Spankees, s'est essayé au challenge d'un album enregistré en un mois.
Chargr est le projet qui en découle, avec un premier album, Vox Pop, avant d'autres à suivre ?
Cette collection de chansons lo-fi pop étranges, amusantes et inventives et une des sorties excitantes de ce début d'année. Chaque titre a sa personnalité et son lot de surprises, mêlant un grand nombre d'influences et d'univers différents tout en conservant une cohérence musicale.
Chaque son est fascinant, que ce soit la guitare dans The Green, les voix robotiques dans Bot ou Bug, les synthés dans Almost Two, la marimba ou les voix de fond dans Po. Chargr soigne autant les mélodies que les détails qui feront sortir ses chansons de l'ordinaire. Un vrai plaisir.

This collection of weird, fun and inventive lo-fi pop songs, is one of the exciting releases of this year beginning. Each track has its own personality and brings its share of surprises, mixing a lot of influences and different worlds while keeping a musical coherence.
Each sound is fascinating, whether it's the guitar in The Green, the robotic voices in Bot or Bug, the synths in Almost Two, the marimba or the backing vocals in Po. Chargr takes care of both the melodies and the details that will make the songs out of the ordinary. A real pleasure.

The Retro Spankees - Meagre Vengeace

Donc, 4 gars chevauchant une abeille géante au-dessus d'une foule de cyclopes paniqués, c'est la pochette ultra-vitaminée du nouveau et second album des Retro Spankees, quatuor de Northampton en activité depuis plus de 10 ans. Avec beaucoup d'énergie et un peu de folie, Meagre Vengeance est un album pop fort bien réussi. De la pop certes décalée mais composée et arrangée avec finesse et personnalité dans la lignée de groupes comme XTC, certains titres comme "Good Start", "Odd Socks" et "There's A Way To Waste Away" sont particulièrement addictifs.
L'album est disponible en téléchargement et précommande pour le CD qui devrait arriver d'ici février 2015.

So 4 guys are riding a giant bee flying above a crowd of panicking cyclops, that's the ultra-vitamin artwork of the new and second album of The Retro Spankees, a quartet from Nothampton operating for more than 10 years now. With a lot of energy and some craziness, Meagre Vengeace is a very well accomplished pop album. Quirky indeed but composed and arranged with finesse and personality in the lineage of bands like XTC, some tracks like 'Good Start', 'Odd Socks' and 'There's A Way To Waste Away' are particulary addictive.
