Après avoir brillamment mené depuis 1994 Caesar puis Ghost Trucker, le hollandais volant Roald Van Oosten prend son propre nom en bandoulière et part à l'aventure en solo dans des contrées incertaines entre rêves et réalité avec un premier album intitulé Oh Dark Hundred.
Roald Van Oosten décline toutes les facettes de ses talents d'auteur, compositeur et arrangeur sur l'ensemble des 12 titres de l'album au travers d'envolées mystiques et envoutantes ; ses cousins sont Eels, Grandaddy, Blonde Redhead ou encore Flotation Toy Warning... combinant adroitement onirisme pop et énergie rock'n'roll.
Chaque chanson est unique, magnifique et déroutante. L'album s'ouvre sur l'intrigant et houleux Snug, un peu plus loin on est bercé sur la voûte céleste par We Hear People ouvrant la voie à Let's Go Spacey. On trouve aussi une nouvelle version de Nothing Political, écrit pour une pièce de Martin Crimp et reprenant quelques mélodies de Under The Stars (Ghost Trucker).
