En 1996, j'achetais mon premier CD, Spiders de Space, et j'ai depuis conservé mon attachement pour ce groupe qui reste le premier de ma discothèque. Quand ils se sont reformés il y a quelques temps, j'avais pris la nouvelle avec surprise, curiosité et la peur d'être déçu. Il y avait cet album annoncé, Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab, puis plus trop de nouvelle au point que je pensais qu'il n'était pas encore terminé.
En réalité il est sorti en 2014, soit 10 ans après le précédent, Suburban Rock 'n' Roll. Bon, j'ai dû rater quelque chose. Dans la nouvelle formation il ne reste des membres originaux que Tommy Scott et Franny Griffits mais de toute façon après tout ce temps leur son ne pouvait qu'évoluer. Un peu. On reconnait aisément le style MPNI (musique pop non-identifiée) de Space, avec des rajouts de ska et des ambiances latino-balkano-orientales, toujours loufoques.
Avec Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab Space doit être jusqu'à présent le seul groupe des années 90 associé brit-pop à avoir réussi son retour, et un autre est en chemin.

When they reformed some time ago, i took the news with surprise, curiosity and the fear of being disappointed. There was this album announced, Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab, and then there were no news at the point i thought it was still unfinished.
In fact, it was released in 2014 so 10 years after the previous one, Suburban Rock 'n' Roll. Well, i might have missed something. In the new line-up the original members remaining are only Tommy Scott and Franny Griffits but anyway after all these years their sound could only evolve. A little bit. Space's UPM (unidentified pop music) style is easily recognizable with ska additions and latino-balkano-oriental ambiances, always bizarre.
With Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab Space may be until now the only band from the 90's associated with the brit-pop scene to have succeeded its return, and another one is coming.
