Quatre titres toujours aussi lo-fi de The Bordellos, principalement guitare et voix. Ce nouvel EP s'ouvre par une tarte à la crème en quatre accords en boucle adressée à un certain Liam Gallagher, sympathiquement représenté sur la pochette par ailleurs. Cabbage Patch Doll Kiss fait émerger l'influence de Syd Barrett et s'autorise un soupçon de percussion, sans trahir le dépouillement prononcé qui caractérise cet EP. Plus étrange, In My Bed hante la troisième piste alors que Special Brew Can Man reprend des airs plus pop en clôture et intègre des notes bizarro-synthétiques.

Brian Bordello - Songs For Cilla To Sing (album)

Chez Brian Bordello la musique lo-fi est une religion, comme déjà constaté avec The Bordellos. Dans cet album solo minimaliste (guitare et voix en grande partie) la bande magnétique remplace distos et trémolos, ce grain quelque peu usé se charge de faire vibrer les chansons folk dont la lumière, comme les étoiles, semble nous parvenir d'un ancien temps.

For Brian Bordello, lo-fi music is a religion, as already noted with The Bordellos. On this minimalistic solo album (mostly guitars and vocals) the magnetic tape replaces the distortion and tremolos, the somewhat used grain is in charge of making vibrate the folk songs whose light, like the stars, seems to reach us from an ancient time.

The Bordellos - Debt Sounds (Album)

Pas de souffle coupé pour ce nouvel album de The Bordellos, au contraire, mais une franchise contraignante et un irréductible crédo lo-fi. Enregistré sur un 4-pistes sans réenregistrements avec du matériel de seconde main ne dépassant pas les 5£, la majorité des voix sont de premières prises et les chansons découvertes par les musiciens le soir même de leur enregistrement.
Entre crise d'adolescence et crise de la quarantaine en fonction des membres, Debt Sounds fait sa propre convergence des luttes, dépouillée et crue, sensible et chaotique tout au long des 17 titres, c'est un vide-poches punk-folk, un pont entre Daniel Johnston et Chokebore (Fine), la désillusion magnifiquement révélée.

No breath taken away in this new album by The Bordellos, on the contrary, but a restrictive outspokenness and a hardliner lo-fi credo. Recorded on a 4-track without overdubs and with second-hand equipment not higher than 5£, most of the vocals are first takes and the songs were discovered by the musicians the nights they had to record them.
Between teenage and midlife crisis depending on the members, Debt Sounds makes its own convergence of struggles, pared-down and crude, sensible and chaotic all along the 17 tracks, it's a punk-folk trinket bowl, a bridge between Daniel Johnston and Chokebore (Fine), disillusionment magnificently revealed.

Régulièrement les prolifiques Bordellos ressortent des cartons des poignées d'inédits sous forme d'EPs. S'en suit l'hymne cataclysmique I'm A Man [Version 1], blues stoogèsque, célébration du désordre.

On ne juge pas un livre à sa couverture ni un EP aux titres de ses chansons mais quand je lis Attack Of The Killer B-sides et Free Download Generation je me dis que ça doit forcément être chouette.
The Bordellos est un trio adepte de lo-fi et DIY depuis plus de 10 ans d'existence au Royaume-Uni, leur EP Garry Glitter laisse entrevoir des influences possibles telles que le Velvet Underground et the Jesus & Mary Chains avec un sens de l'humour provoc digne de Trotski Nautique, ou l'inverse.
Dans cet EP il est question de la difficulté d'admettre aimer la musique d'un pédophile, du listing de ses b-sides préférées, de rock'n'roll gratuit et d'aller en ville s'acheter des chaussures. Tout un programme.
